Homemade Herbal Shampoo

Havent done anything herbal in a while so last night I tried mixing up a shampoo! Mixed up in an old 4oz Special Effects bottle (still had some dye in it, ah well that stuff is all natural anyway!)

I started with a base of plain unscented castile soap, maybe about an ounce

Then almost filled up the rest of the bottle with a Horsetail and Nettle tea mixture. When I make this again I’m going to actually let the tea steep for a while but I was way impatient so i just poured it all in there after straining. Horsetail is high in silica and supposedly strengthens hair and encourages hair growth, Nettles are supposed to do the same thing. One day soon I will sing you all an epic ballad on how much I love nettles.

Finaly I added half a teaspoon each of Almond oil, Coconut oil, Avocado oil, a few drops of Argan oil, and a couple drops each of lavender and peppermint essential oil for good measure.

Verdict: While it was a little hard to use in the shower as it has the same consistency as water, today my hair is SUPER CRAZY SOFT! Not shinny though, which has me a little disappointed. I think it might be the castile soap, I’ve tried it alone as a shampoo before with bad results so next time I will substitute it with some of my fancy sulphate free semi-shampoo.

BTW. YOU SHOULD ALL BE USING SULPHATE FREE SHAMPOO. It dries out your hair something awful, ESPECIALLY if you have any sort of wave/curl to your hair. Also does the same to your skin.

ANYWAY, I recommend this recipe! Just skip the castile soap and maybe also the avocado oil as I have tried that straight on my hair before with BLEH results.

This morning I am trying a Rhassoul clay and coco powder hair mask so stay tuned!
